'Happy Cat' 2014

Happy Cat (2014) (artist’s pre-production animated study shown)
Fiberglass, foam, wood, paint, electric motor, and 110v plug
77 x 84 x 84 inches

Happy Cat (2014) re-contextualizes the Maneki-neko figurine (Beckoning Cat) often found in Japanese merchant and restaurant spaces.  The figurine’s genesis is disputed in folklore, but its relationship to wealth, fortune and luck is certain.
